Rajashree starts out her day by responding to emails and phone calls and contacting contract laboratories and manufacturing sites on the East Coast and Europe. Majority of her day is spent on coordination of active projects. Her work has dramatically changed since starting with SuperGen in 1998 and she admits that this has enabled her to obtain a wealth of experience in a short time. When she started at SuperGen, she was working on developing and improving formulations that resulted in several patents on drugs like paclitaxel and decitabine. She moved on to gain experience in manufacturing of parenteral products and more recently is involved with pre-clinical development as well. She has contributed in writing several sections for the new drug application (NDA) for submission to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
Rajashree came to SuperGen after completing her PhD. She had two offers and her school advisor encouraged her to work for SuperGen. So when asking her what has kept her here at SuperGen for a little over seven years she exclaims “growth, growth and more growth”. “I really enjoy the close knit group in the lab. When I come in to work every day I am truly happy working with people that really care about me. She is looking forward to the ability to work with more compounds in a pre-clinical function.
Rajashree has recently had an addition to her lovely family. She has a 3 month old son who keeps her on her toes. She went out on leave to deliver and enjoy bonding with her son. She was able to ease back into her job by working half days for a few weeks before returning full time. Rajashree appreciates the incredible sense of family friendliness and flexibility that SuperGen provides.
When she is not contributing in the lab Rajashree spends time with her family which includes her 5 year old daughter, her infant son and husband. She tries to sneak in some reading of her professional journals and also takes interest in learning Indian classical music once a week. She is a member of professional organizations, such as the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS). She serves on the Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery (PDD) website committee of AAPS and recently worked with the team to host their first scientific web conference.
